Our guest speaker this year is Paul Tebbel. Here is an exerpt from his Bio.... "Few people have spent as much of their lives around cranes as Paul Tebbel. Introduced to them as a senior in college in 1975, he spent 3 summers searching for crane nests and families in the bogs, woods and fields of northern Michigan and central Ontario. His field biology career path never really got started as his early job possibilities disappeared when President Reagan cut all federal spending on wildlife research. He drifted to southern California where he found a part-time job in a backpacking store that was run by the owners of a new line of clothing called Patagonia. For 11 years he helped steer this company to walk the talk of their environmentalism. But he never lost his devotion to these tall, gangly birds, often traveling to their wintering grounds in the southern part of California’s central valley. Eventually the pressure of nearby Los Angeles was more than he could bear and he was lured away in 1995 by National Audubon Society who sought a new manager for their small sanctuary on the Platte River in Nebraska...."

Featured Guest Artist is local photographer Christy Yuncker Happ. She has photographed and studied one pair of Sandhill Cranes living and nesting near her home for 21 years continuously. Her photos have been wonderful in documenting the biology and natural history of Cranes.
